Indonesia’s nickel ore output in 2019 was at 52.8mn mt, up by 82pc from 22.1mn mt in the year prior, according to director of minerals Yunus Saefulhak.
The country’s ferronickel output in 2019 went up to 1.1mn mt from 573,000mt and that of nickel pig iron increased to 692,429mt from 323,000mt in 2019
Indonesia’s nickel ore exports were at 29.3mn mt in Jan-Nov 2019, up from 18.2mn mt in the prior-year period, according to Davis Index analysis.
The output is anticipated to increase further when battery chemical plants commence their operations. Chinese battery firm GEM is likely to begin the first phase of operations at its Indonesian nickel and cobalt plant by the end of 2020.
