Severstal to upgrade Orel plant
Russia’s steelmaker Severstal plans to upgrade its steel rolling mill in Orel, Central Russia. Severstal will invest RUB30mn ($0.45mn) to upgrade production technology and reduce the environmental impact of this facility. The plant manufactures fasteners, low-carbon wires and steel cord. In 2019, Severstal’s crude steel production dropped by 2pc to 11.85mn mt from 12.03mn mt a year ago.
Baowu leads crude steel production in 2019
Baowu Iron and Steel Group of China was the largest crude steel producer in the world in 2019. Baowu group’s crude steel output was 95.33mn mt in 2019. Baowu group was formed in 2016 with the merger of Baosteel and Wuhan Iron and Steel Group. Baowu restructured Maanshan Iron and Steel Group and Chongqing Iron and Steel last year. The annual steel output of the group is nearly 100mn mt.
