Metro Mining recommences mining in Australia
Australia-based Metro Mining has recommenced mining and shipping operations for April dispatches in compliance with the Australian government’s precautionary measure to curb the spread of COVID-19. Metro Mining is focused on maintaining the integrity of its operations. The company estimates to produce and dispatch 1mn mt of bauxite by the end of June. The company has, however, not ruled out the possibility that operations could be impacted by the spread of COVID-19 in Australia.
Xinjiang eases procedures to boost exports
Xinjiang, an autonomous territory in northwest China, has simplified its custom clearance procedures to aid steel exports, according to local media. These relaxations are expected to cut the customs clearance time to a mere 30 mins which will help exporters reduce storage costs at Urumqi port. The local government also plans to support China-Europe freight train services. These measures are aimed at dealing with the overcapacity situation in the steel sector.
