IOC to start Al-air battery firm in Chennai

Oil refinery, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) plans to start an aluminium-air (Al-air) battery factory in Chennai, according to the Financial Express. IOC has partnered with Israel-based Phinergy, which specialises in manufacturing Al-air and zinc-air batteries for electric vehicles and other applications.

 

MTAQ invests in recycler’s zero emission project

The Motor Traders Association of Queensland (MTAQ) has invested in Green Distillation Technologies Corporation’s (GDTC) zero-emission project. GDTC claims to be able to recycle end-of-life car and truck tyres (ELT) into saleable commodities of oil, carbon and steel. The project is based on three principles: minimise waste and pollution; keep products and materials in use; and regenerate natural systems.

 

Three steel mills in Tianjin halt production

Three steel mills in China’s Tianjin city plan to halt production. Tianzhong Jiangtian Heavy Industry, Tianfeng Iron and Steel and Sanyuan Iron and Steel will shut operations, according to the Chinese Society for Metals. Tianjin authorities had scheduled this closure last year to control air pollution in the region. Authorities aim to transfer steel capacities from cities to suburb to reduce air pollution. Tianjin Tianzhong has signed a capacity transfer agreement with Fangcheng gang Jinxi. Production capacity of Tianzhong Jiangtian is 870,000mt of iron and 1.35mn mt of steel.
