Odisha villagers protest JSW steel plant
A village council in Dinkia, Odisha has passed a resolution against diverting land to JSW Utkal Steel for an integrated steel unit. The plant will have a proposed crude steel production capacity of 13.2mn mt/yr. Earlier, South Korea’s Posco planned to establish a plant in the same region but it faced protests from residents. In 2017, the Korean steelmaker decided to call-off its plans.
JSW’s crude steel output rises by 5pc in Feb
JSW Steel’s crude steel output was 1.32mn mt in February, up by 5pc from 1.25mn mt in Feb 2019. JSW produced 982,000mt flat-rolled products, up by 7pc from 920,000mt in Feb 2019. Production of long-rolled products remained unchanged at 308,000mt.
Jiugang Hongxing to build SS furnace
Jiugang Hongxing Stainless Steel branch will make a new stainless-steel intermediate frequency furnace. Production capacity of the new intermediate furnace is about 90,000mt. New furnace will improve the production efficiency of the steel mills, according to Guangdong Stainless Steel Materials Association. Investment in the new project is about CNY35mn.
