Authorities shut two sponge iron plants

State government agency shuts two sponge iron plants for violation of pollution control regulations, according to Deccan Herald. The plants – Padmavathi at Chikka and ISTPL at Yerabanahalli were pulled up by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSCPB) after locals complained of air pollution. Padmavathi was set up over a decade ago with a daily capacity of 400mt. The plant also has a ferroalloy unit with an annual capacity of 37,100mt. 

 

Amreli Steel posts loss of PKR232.42mn

Pakistan-based Amreli Steel has posted a loss of PKR232.42mn ($1.50mn) in the December quarter compared to a profit of PKR107.74mn in the prior year quarter. For the half-year 2019, the private steel producer reported a loss of PKR 313.47mn compared to a profit of PKR 516.33mn in the prior year period. 

 

Nippon Steel to supply mega H beams

Nippon Steel plans to supply large cross-section H-shaped steel beams in April 2020. The product is used in large buildings to shorter construction time and cut labour costs. Nippon has set a rolling process to manufacture these beams with a depth of upto 1,200mm, 20pc more than from its existing large beams.
