Zhanjiang Steel sets daily output record

China-based Zhanjiang Iron and Steel plant set a new record with a single-day output of 21,968mt on March 26, according to China Metallurgical News. Zhanjiang Iron and Steel is a subsidiary of Baosteel in Guangdong province. Annual production capacity of the company is 6.89mn mt steel, mainly in the form of hot-rolled plates; cold-rolled sheets;  hot-dip galvanized plates and wide plates. Zhanjiang Iron caters to South China and South Asian markets. 

 

Boliden halts production at Tara mines

European metals major Boliden has suspended production at Tara mines as the government of Ireland imposed a 14-day restriction across the country to control the spread of COVID-19. Boliden’s Tara mines has an annual zinc production of 2.6mn mt, lead is extracted as a by-product from this mine. In 2019, Tara produced over 2.46mn mt of 5.24pc zinc and 1.03pc lead.
