Prakash Industries securesd 1.7mn mt coal linkage
Prakash Industries secured coal linkage of 1.7mn mt for its integrated steel plant at Champa, Chhattisgarh. The company’s facility includes sponge iron kilns with an annual capacity of 200,000mt set up in technical collaboration with Lurgi Germany and 15 MW waste heat. The comprehensive long-term coal linkage will reduce the company’s production cost for the next five years.
SAIL’s sales up by 47pc in Dec 2019
Indian steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) steel sales increased by 47pc to 1.68mn mt in December 2019 compared to the prior year. The company also produced 925,000mt of rails for the Indian Railways out of the total 985,000mt, in fiscal year 2019-20.
Tangshan, Liaocheng issue smog alerts, curb steel output
Top steelmaking cites in China issued pollution alerts. Liaocheng, in Shandong province, issued red and Tangshan issued orange pollution alert from Jan 2-5, due to deteriorating weather conditions. Pollution alerts require ferrous and non-ferrous companies to reduce emissions and cut productions. Several mills in Tangshan, Hebei, are in positive list and are exempt from production cuts. In Liaochneg City, during this period, lead and zinc smelters are required to cut output and producers of secondary copper, aluminium, lead and zinc must halt production. Also, heavy-duty vehicles below Stage IV emission are banned from delivering cargoes.
