Iranian steel producers exported 1.14mn mt steel in the March 21-May 21 period, the first two months of the Persian calendar, according to media reports. In April 21-May 21, steel exports by major producers rose 187pc to 632,000mt.
Steel exports by Khuzestan Steel Company were the highest in the first two months amounting to 321,187mt; followed by Esfahan with 213,873mt. At the third place was Mobarakeh Steel Company with106,032mt.
In the year ending March 20, 2021, exports by Iranian major producers registered a decline of 13.1pc to 9mn mt from the preceding year, states the report citing data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA). Exports declined largely amid movement restrictions adopted by many countries to curb the spread of COVID-19 waves.
The country’s steelmakers are targeting an output of 32mn mt in the Iranian year which is going to end on March 20, 2022; a rise of 27.7pc from the prior year’s output of 28.37mn mt. Sponge iron production in Iran is targeted to reach 33mn mt, a rise of 2.5mn mt from the preceding year.
