Iran plans to revive 50 idled small copper mines in the country by March 2021 to ramp up production capacity, according to local media. Out of the country’s total small copper mines, 94 are active, 96 are idled and 21 are being equipped, as per Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro). 

 

The country has outlined copper projects worth IRR100trillion ($2.39bn) to be executed in the current Iranian year which began on March 20. Imidro could successfully revive 146 small mines in the previous Iranian year, out of the planned 150. The association could not revive all the mines due to the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic. Although, the budget to revive small mines has increased two-folds in the current Iranian year.
