Iran’s top car producers’ auto output in the first nine months (Mar 20-Dec 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar stood at 653,861 units, up by 14.12pc from the prior-year period, according to local media reports.
Due to continuous decline in auto production, the Iranian government had stopped releasing production reports in the preceding year (Mar 2019-Mar 2020).
Of the total vehicle output in the Mar-Dec period, Iran Khodro (IKCO) produced 346,486 units, making it the top automaker in the country. In the ninth month (Nov 22-Dec 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar, IKCO produced 55,252 units.
IKCO was followed by SAIPA, which produced 234,576 units in the Mar-Dec period, while In the ninth month of the year, the company output stood at 24,721 units. In the Mar-Dec period, SAIPA also exported 336 completely built units (CBU) to other countries.
Pars Khodro’s vehicle production in the Mar-Dec period stood at 72,799 units, while in the ninth month, it stood at 6,723 units.
The automobile sector in Iran is under crisis due to mismanagement, the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the sanctions imposed by the United States, as per media reports.
While the auto sector across the globe is recovering slowly from the pandemic, Iran is focusing on policies and measures to boost the industry and promoting local auto part manufacturers and technologies.
The country aims to become less dependent on other countries for procuring auto parts and to increase production in the second half of the current year and produce 1.2mn mt by the end of it (March 2021).
