Iran’s iron ore concentrate production rose by 3pc to 20.37mn mt in the March-August period compared to the prior-year period, according to a report by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization.

In August, iron ore concentrate output stood at 4.33mn mt, up by 13pc from Aug 2019.


The country’s iron ore concentrate producing capacity is estimated to reach 68.5mn mt, while production is projected to touch 58.1mn mt by March 2021.


In March-August, Iran’s iron ore pellet output increased by 6pc to 18.71mn mt from the prior-year period. In August, output rose by 22pc to 3.92mn mt from August in the prior year.


Pellet production capacity is expected to reach 66.4mn mt, while production is predicted to be around 55.3mn mt by the end of the ongoing Iranian year ending on March 20, 2021.


Around 537,697mt of iron ore was produced n the form of fines/lumps in Iran during the March-August period, down by 53pc from the prior-year period. In August, the output stood at 135,104 mt.


New expansion projects planned in Iran are expected to boost the country’s iron ore concentrate production capacity to 23.15mn mt and pellet output capacity to 25.92mn mt annually by the fiscal year 2023-24.
