Iran’s iron ore, steel pellets, and direct-reduced iron (DRI) production increased by 15pc, 11pc, and 7pc, respectively, during Q1 (Mar 21-Jun 21) of the Iranian year.
The country produced 13.7mn mt of iron ore, 12.7mn mt of steel pellets, and 8.6mn mt of DRI during the period under review, noted the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) on Jul 18.
Iron ore production
Iran’s Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex produced the majority of iron ore concentrates at 4.7mn mt, up 21pc from Q1 2020. The Chadormalu and Middle East mining companies reported a quarterly output of 3.1mn mt and 1.8mn mt, respectively.
Iran’s May 21-Jun 21 (third month of Q1) iron ore production climbed by 15pc to 13.7mn mt. Although Goharzamin Iron Ore recorded the highest monthly increase in output at 46pc from the same month last year, Golgohar was the leading producer at 1.4mn mt and Chadormalu followed with 1.1mn mt during the same timeframe.
Pellet production
Golgohar and Mobarakeh Steel produced 5pc and 4pc of steel pellets, respectively, during Q1 2021, holding the majority share at 3.2mn mt and 2mn mt.
The country’s monthly steel pellet output was flat, with a 1pc increase to 4.13mn mt in the third month of Q1. Iran’s Khorasan Steel’s monthly production increased by 36pc, the highest growth among companies producing pellets.
DRI production
Mobarakeh Steel’s Q1 2021 production dropped 2pc from the same quarter last year, but it still was the lead producer at 2mn mt, according to IMIDRO, followed by Khorasan Steel with 1mn mt a decline of 2pc from the previous year.
Iran’s total DRI output was up 2pc in the third month of Q1 to 2.71mn mt. Mobarakeh Steel had the largest share in total monthly production at 583,849mt.
