Iranian companies produced 2.19mn mt of Sponge iron in the tenth (Dec 21, 2020-Jan 19 2021) month of the Iranian calendar, registering a decline of 2pc as compared to the same month in the preceding year, according to media reports citing data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro).

 

In the first ten months (Mar 21, 2020-Jan 19, 2021) of the year, however, the country’s Sponge iron output grew by 8pc to 25.55mn mt from the prior-year period.

 

Iran’s top Sponge iron producers during the 10-month period were Mobarakeh Steel Company, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Company, Chadormalu Industrial Company, Khuzestan Steel Company, Hormozgan Steel Company, Iranian Ghadir Iron and Steel Company, and South Kaveh Steel Company,

 

Imidro informed that the increase in sponge iron production in Iran is due to the establishment of new Sponge iron plants. The organization has launched several projects to produce Sponge iron in the country with a new strategy and participation of the private sector, as per media reports. Iran is the second-largest producer of Sponge iron in the world after India.
