Iran’s sponge iron production in the Iranian year 1399 (Mar 21, 2020-Mar 20, 2021) stood at 30.5mn mt, up by 9pc as compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The largest sponge iron producer in terms of volume during the year was Mobarakeh Steel Company. The company’s sponge iron output grew by 12pc to 7.24mn mt from the prior year.

The largest sponge iron producer in terms of growth was Saba Steel Company which produced 799,461mt of sponge iron, registering an increase of 108pc as compared to the preceding year.

In the twelfth month of the Iranian year 1399 (Feb 20-Mar 20, 2021), Iran’s sponge iron production rose by 9pc to 2.67mn mt as compared to the same month in the prior year.

The largest sponge iron producer in the month was Mobarakeh Steel Company which produced 641,020mt of sponge iron, while the highest production growth was recorded by Saba Steel Company with a rise of 34pc.

Iran is the second-largest producer of sponge iron in the world after India.
