Iran’s steel products exports decreased by 43pc to 1.42mn mt in the first quarter of the Iranian year 2020-21 (March 21, 2020- March 20, 2021) from the prior-year quarter, according to Iranian media reports.

 

The country exported 1.04mn mt of semi-finished and 388,000mt of finished steel, down by 27pc and 49pc, respectively, in Q1.

Billets and blooms accounted for the largest share of semis exports with 837,000mt, down by 7pc. Slabs were the second-largest semi-finished steel product to be exported, which registered a 61pc decline to 204,000mt from the prior year.

 

Among finished steel products’ exports, long steel products contributed the biggest share with 343,000mt, down by 39pc from the prior year.

Iran expects to annually export 15mn mt of steel with its production reaching 30mn mt. The country has winged into the list of world’s top ten steel producers.
