Iran-based producer Jajarm Alumina Complex’s aluminum ingot production in the first nine months (Mar 20-Dec 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar increased by 218pc to 17,813mt as compared to 5,603mt produced in the prior-year period, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro) citing the company’s official data.
In the Mar-Dec period, the company’s alumina powder output stood at 177,000mt, up by 3pc from 172,000mt produced during the same period in the preceding year.
The company said it increased production despite lack of access to the Tash mine due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The company has also localized the knowledge of producing alumina from low-grade bauxite, it added.
Jajarm Alumina Complex became operational in July 2019 and its total aluminum ingot capacity is 40,000mt.
The plant was built with an investment of IRR17tn ($136mn) and also produces alumina, derived from bauxite, which is a key ingredient in solid-fuel propellants used to launch missiles.
