Japan has launched an anti-dumping investigation against China and South Korean steel excluding Hong Kong and Macao regions, after receiving complaints from several domestic steel manufacturers.

On Monday, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Finance initiated a new anti-dumping investigation into hot-dipped galvanized steel wires imported from China and South Korea.

The investigation would be completed within a years’ span and, if applicable, anti-dumping duties could be imposed.

On March 31, Japanese companies Nichia Steel Works, NS Hokkai Seisen, Galvart Japan and Wire Techno filed an application requesting anti-dumping investigation on hot-dipped galvanized steel wires imports. It was estimated that dumping margin was between 25-30pc for the imports from China and 20-30pc from South Korea.
