Japan’s pig iron production fell to 4.1mn mt in June from 4.4mn mt in the previous month and decreased by 36.3pc from June 2019 according to Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data.
Crude steel production also declined to 5.6mn mt in June from 5.9mn mt in the previous month and was down by 36.3pc from the same period in 2019.
JISF reported a drop of 15.8pc in pig iron production during H1 2020 to 31.9mn mt compared to the same period in 2019. The country’s crude steel production also decreased by 17.4pc to 42.2mn mt in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year.
Total hot rolled steel production declined to 5mn mt in June compared to 5.1mn mt in May and fell by 33.9pc from June 2019. Production of ordinary hot rolled steel products declined to 4.2mn mt from 4.3mn mt and dropped by 29.4pc during the same period under comparison. Total hot rolled specialty steel products fell to 820,700mt in June this year from 889,500mt in the previous month and dropped by 50.2pc from June 2019.
