Japanese ferrous scrap exports rises by 40pc in June to 8,83,156mt from prior June and increased by 29pc from May, according to official data.
In June, Vietnam and South Korea were the top destinations for Japanese scrap with 30pc share. Japan’s scrap exports to Vietnam were 264,498mt and South Korea 261,613mt, followed by Taiwan at 1,36,335mt (18pc), Malaysia at 136,335mt (15pc), Bangladesh at 40,783mt (5pc).
In the first half of 2020 (Jan-June), Japan’s ferrous scrap exports rose by 38pc to 48,84,332mt from the prior year period. Japanese ferrous scrap prices remained lower for importers in Vietnam and South Korea compared to global offers.
Japan’s billet export in June increased marginally by 3pc to 3,08,452mt from prior June and rose by 13pc from May.
In June, billet exports to South Korea were 102,464mt with the highest share of 33pc, followed by Taiwan 99,519mt (32pc), China 71,622mt (23pc), Thailand 28,534mt (9pc) and the Philippines 6,068mt (5pc).
