Japan’s February vehicle production fell by 8.4pc to 704,800 units in February 2021 compared to the same month last year, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). Japanese makers produced 596,379 passenger cars, 102,156 trucks, and 6,265 buses in February, down by 10.6pc on passenger cars and 27pc in buses, but up by 9.1pc in trucks, against the same month a year ago. 

 

From February’s total production, 47.9pc were exported, and the remaining 52.1pc retained within the domestic market. February’s exports fell by 14.2pc to 337,567 vehicles against the same month last year with 88.8pc passenger cars. Of the total, 38.4pc or 129,524 units were exported to North America, 16pc or 54,471 units to Asia, and 10pc or 33,886 to the Middle East.

 

February’s vehicle production increased by 2.6pc against the preceding month when total production reached 687,029.

 

Japan produced 8.1mn vehicles in 2020, down 16.7pc against 9.7mn units in 2019.
