Scottish structural steel company J&D Pierce acquires Konecranes’ East Kilbride plant to expand its rail and road manufacturing division. The College Milton site with a 300,000sq ft plant and 14 acres of yard will become the headquarters of J&D Pierce’s bridges and heavy plated fabrication division Strubeam, in addition to crane manufacturing operations.
J&D Pierce has planned a GBP6mn ($8.38mn) investment at the site for new machinery and upgrades, while the purchase price is undisclosed. The company has also secured a long-term supply sub-contract with Konecranes for the manufacture of overhead cranes, according to a release announcing the deal. Restructuring and refurbishment work has started at the site.
Konecranes is a lifting solution and equipment company catering to manufacturing and processing industries, ports, terminals and shipyards, while J&D Pierce is a structural steel expert mainly serving the construction sector. J&D Pierce’s facilities have 1,000mt per week fabricated and painted steelwork capacity.
