China’s Jiuquan Iron and Steel successfully tapped its blast furnace no. 7 into production after upgrades. The Gansu province-based Jiugang Group (Jisco) is the largest steel producer in north-west China.
Jiuquan’s 2,500 cubic meter No. 7 blast furnace was relaunched on Wednesday. The furnace was optimized and upgraded with an investment of CNY480mn and was scheduled to be completed by mid-year. The project is an important milestone for Jisco, which has a dominant position in north-west China steel market.
Jisco engages in the production and sale of steel, iron and rolling products. It produces pig iron, high-speed wire rods, bars, CC billets and plates. The company has an annual production capacity of 2.2mn mt pig iron, 2.2mn mt crude steel and 2.6mn mt rolled steel.
