Indian steelmaker JSW Steel started operations its new reheating furnace at wirerod mill #2 at its Vijayanagar site in Toranagallu, Karnataka. 

 

The new furnace, supplied by Danieli, has a processing capacity of 220mt per hour and heats up cold billets uniformly. The furnace produced its first hot billet after two weeks of testing. The Vijayanagar steel plant has an annual crude steel production capacity of 12mn mt, according to the company’s website. 

 

JSW also operates India’s largest reheating furnace in Dolvi, Maharashtra which is capable of processing 245mt of billet per hour. 

 

In the first nine months of 2021 fiscal (ended December 31, 2020), JSW Steel’s crude production fell by 10pc to 10.89mn mt, as compared to 12.09mn mt in the same period last year.
