Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

US-based aluminum scrap consumer and products manufacturer JW Aluminum will be shutting down its rolling mill located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania by December 29, 2020, the company said in a statement.

The company said that it was forced to take the step as the COVID-19 pandemic had severely impacted the aerospace industry.

Aerospace-related products accounted for over 50pc of the company’s total production at the Williamsport facility. The pandemic had negatively affected participants throughout the company’s supply chain, it added.

The company said that it will continue operations at its facilities in South Carolina and Arkansas to supply American-made flat-rolled aluminum for its core markets, the building products, commercial and recreational transportation, and HVAC/R sectors.

The company is currently pursuing strategic buyers regarding a potential sale of the Williamsport facility.

Apart from this, the company had also shut down its facility in St Louis earlier this year. It has also invested to expand its facility at Goose Creek in South Carolina.

JW Aluminum is a leading producer of flat-rolled aluminum products used in a wide variety of commercial and consumer applications.
