Turkey’s Kardemir began shipments of rail to Afghanistan State Railway from its rail and profile rolling mill in May 2021. The plant can produce tracks up to 72mt. The tonnage was not disclosed, but this is Turkey’s first export placement of rails to Afghanistan.
The rolling mills has produced 1.45mn mt of rail since 2007, or equivalent to a railway of 12,669km. Kardemir’s Karabuk Demir Sanayi ve Ticaret is the country’s only heavy profile producer. The company produces rails and wheels for railroads, which is the most cost-effective transportation system worldwide for freight and passenger and expects to expand its export placement.
