Turkish integrated steel mill Kardemir plans to produce 200,000 railway wheels per year, according to the company’s annual report.
Kardemir, which began producing BA318 type railway wheels in November 2019, plans to make 120,000 freight train wheels, 40,000 passenger train wheels, 20,000 locomotives wheels, and 20,000 light rail wheels.
The steelmaker intends to sell these in the Turkish domestic market as currently around 10,000 railway wheels are imported. The company also plans to export them to European countries like Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and France, to the Middle East, and to North Africa.
Kardemir will also continue to produce BA004 type railway wheels, as stated in the company’s report.
