The Karnataka government has requested steel companies in the state to ramp up oxygen production and supply it to hospitals on a priority basis, according to media reports. The country is facing a shortage of oxygen supply amid the rising COVID-19 cases.
Karnataka Minister of Mines and Geology Murugesh R Nirani held a meeting with the representatives of the steel companies on Wednesday. The minister informed that the government has instructed the companies producing liquefied oxygen in their plants to manufacture steel to increase production.
The steel companies have responded well to the request and have agreed to supply oxygen to hospitals.
