Car production in Kazakhstan more than doubled in the first six months of the year, defying the global automotive market trends. 

 

According to media reports, domestic Kazakh automakers produced 32,701 cars in H1 2020, rising 58.6pc over the first half of 2019. Car exports accounted for $46mn and 2,475 units. 

 

SaryarkaAvtoProm, the automotive manufacturer based in Kostanai was responsible for a third of the exports, worth $13.5mn. Every sixth car manufactured in the country was exported. 

 

Passenger cars saw the most significant increase in output, with the production of these vehicles increasing by 48.6pc to 27,867 units while truck manufacturing rose 2.5 times to 2,974 units. Production of buses increased by 5.8pc to 713 units. 

 

SaryarkaAvtoProm, the only exporter of cars, ramped up manufacturing by 82pc to produce 16,923 units. 

 

The Kazakh economy escaped the global decline during this period with the auto industry surging 48.6pc in value to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
