Polish copper producer KGHM Group’s consolidated copper production increased by 6pc to 61,700mt in January compared to 58,400mt in the same month last year.


Of the total output, the copper concentrate production from the KGHM Polska Miedź mine was reported at 31,200mt last month down 2pc from 31,900mt in January 2019, while electrolytic copper production increased by 4pc to 50,100mt from 48,200mt during the same period under review.


Copper production at the KGHM International subsidiary tallied at 5,500mt in January up 20pc from 4,600mt in the same prior-year month. Monthly copper production from the company’s Sierra Gorda mine increased by 9pc to 6,100mt from 5,600mt during the same time frame.


Sales decline

KGHM’s consolidated copper sales declined by 1pc to 46,200mt in January from 46,800mt in the same month of 2020. 


Sales from KGHM Polska Miedź fell by 5pc to 35,200mt in January from 36,900mt in the same month last year as logistical issues delayed the shipment of 1,500mt of cathodes from the end of January to February, the company indicated in a statement on Feb 22. KGHM International sold 4,900mt of copper in January down 13pc from 5,600mt in the same prior-year period. 


The only KGHM entity where copper sales increased was the Sierra Gorda mine where sales grew by 42pc to 6,100mt last month from 4,300mt in January 2019 due to a higher volume of sales that were made as scheduled.
