Mexico’s Las Truchas mine is upgrading its iron ore concentration capabilities with the installation of a new iron ore concentrator.

The concentrator is being set up by engineering firm DRA, the company said in a statement on Monday. Under the agreement, DRA will also revamp the mine’s infrastructure used to transport iron ore to the new facilities of las Truchas.

DRA plans to include one primary crusher, two secondary crushers, three tertiary crushers, ball mills, bar mills, and two wet magnetic separation units while remodeling the concentrator.

In 2020, Las Truchas produced a combined 1.6mn mt of concentrate and lumps and will undergo a modernization process this year.

To get the ore to the processing plant, the company uses a 26-kilometer slurry tube.
