Mexico’s mining production increased by 0.9pc in December 2019 compared the prior year, led by higher lead and zinc outputs, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

 

Lead production increased by 19.1pc in December 2019 to 14,695mt compared to the same month in 2018, while cast output rose by 14.4pc to 439,605mt. Zinc production in December 2019 also increased by 8.8pc to 37,144mt compared to the same month in the prior year according to Inegi data.

 

Apart from lead and zinc, fluorite production was up by 8.5pc to 88,461mt in December 2019, silver output increased by 7.8pc to 347,267kg (347.2mt), and sulfur rose by 5.2pc to 32,322mt compared with the same period in 2018.

 

Copper production, on the other hand, fell by 0.8pc to 41,509mt in December compared with December 2018, while the output of iron pellets dropped during the same comparable period by 7.3pc to 557,285mt. Coke production also decreased by 25.8pc to 70,137mt, and gold production was down by 2.2pc to 7,284 kg in December 2019 compared with the same prior-year period.
