Proterra, a North American automotive and energy storage company, has signed a deal with LG Energy Solution that will see the company receiving a long-term supply of cylindrical battery cells.
The company will initially invest in multiple GWh of US-produced capacity for these cells that will include a new high nickel NMCA chemistry, suitable for Proterra’s commercial vehicle line-up. This will aid in Proterra’s battery systems meeting the content requirements outlined by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Proterra and LG Energy have also extended their battery supply agreement to last until 2024. This extension paired with the deal ensures a steady supply of battery cells for Proterra through to 2028. Both companies intend to receive approval from their board of directors by the last quarter of this year.
