Liberty Steel’s Czech subsidiary Ostrava has installed two new crop shears, which were supplied by Danieli.
According to the latter’s release, dated August 6, the installation occurred in a two-strand steel wire rod mill, which currently produces 5.5-14mm-diameter units. The upgrade will increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs at the mill, which produces 600,000mt annually.
The new shears will cut head and tail ends of the bar before the final rolling process, and with increased efficiency.
Jiri Zboril, head of the Wire Rod Mill at Liberty Ostrava, said the project will increase the mill’s capacity to produce larger diameters of wire rod. He added that the investment will also increase the steel unit’s rolling speed.
In June, Liberty Steel invested in a hybrid furnace at the integrated steel plant in Ostrava, which has an annual production capacity of 3.6mn mt.
