Liberty Steel will expand its coating line that treats steel pipes manufactured by its Southeast Romanian integrated steel plant in Galati.
The metallurgical producer will invest RON31mn ($7.4mn) for the project at its specialist tubular products unit as market demand for these coated items is rising sharply, the company noted on Sep 8.
The pipe coating line will use full automation and hold a yearly capacity of approximately 110,000mt, which translates to around 500,000 meters of pipe.
The manufacturer has received its first elements for the pipe coating from the Netherlands, with final equipment components scheduled to arrive in late September. The new line is set to be established in 2022, while simultaneously forming a testing laboratory as well.
The pipe coating line can also use epoxy resin to coat internal surface pipes for use in transmission lines for oil, natural gas, water, or other fluids.
Adding the coating line means LIBERTY’s Galati site will be the only local producer able to make this type of tubular product. Galați will be able to produce the steel plate needed to make the pipes and also process them for Romanian, Balkans, and other European consumers.
LIBERTY Galati is the largest integrated steel plant and metallurgical products manufacturer in Romania holding 3mn mt of yearly steel production capacity with the potential to expand output further.
