Malaysian auto manufacturer Proton Holdings’ total sales in April stood at 15,017 units, up by 0.18pc as compared to 14,989 units sold in the prior month, registering growth for the third consecutive month, according to local media reports citing a statement by the company.

The company contributed an estimated market share of 26.7pc in April, citing it to be its best month in terms of sales in 2021.

Total auto sales in the country for the month are estimated to be over 56,000 units as all brands are trying to fulfill sales orders before the expiry of the Penjana sales tax incentives scheme implemented by the government till the end of June, the company added.

In the first four months of the year (Jan-April, 2021), the company’s cumulative auto sales stood at 47,843 units, with an estimated market share of 24.4pc.

In April, the company also began construction of a new stamping plant at its Tanjung Malim factory, investing MYR200mn ($48.72mn) in the plant. The plant is expected to become operational by Q3 2022 and will allow the company to stamp much larger pieces of body panels.
