India’s major car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor, Japan, reported an 8pc drop in production at 113,937 units in August compared to a year ago.
Production dipped amid a scarcity of semiconductor chips, stated the company in a press release. Maruti Suzuki has cut production for September by an estimated 40pc across its plants.
Segment-wise, total passenger car production fell to 111,368 units driven by a fall in the mini and compact segments’ production drop of 24pc. But light commercial vehicle production grew by 8pc to 2,569 units in August from a year ago.
Maruti Suzuki sold 130,699 units in August, 5pc higher than a year ago.
