Aluminum billet manufacturer Matalco started production at its Wisconsin Rapids plant in the US and has shipped over 3mn lb (1,360.77mt) of the product since the plant was commissioned in November.
The company said in a press release that the plant had begun production last month and has the capacity of producing 240mn lb of aluminum per year. Matalco had announced plans to start this facility in October, just before the COVID-19 related shutdowns hit North America.
The Wisconsin Rapids plant will add to the company’s present capacity of producing 700mn lb of billet per year making it the largest aluminum billet producer in North America. The Ontario, Canada headquartered billet maker also has a remelt and casting facility in Lordstown, Ohio that can produce over 1mn lb of billet per day when working at full capacity.
