Mechel has launched new wiredrawing benches with a 50,000mt annual production capacity to produce low and high carbon wire rods and ropes at its Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant. 

 

The equipment were worth RUB 220mn ($3mn) and has been installed as a part of the plant’s revamping plan. Moving forward the firm plans to install total 12 benches at the facility. The modernization of the plant began in 2016 with the total project cost of RUB 1.5mn and is expected to be completed by 2023, the Russian miner said in a statement. 

 

This upgrade will help the company to produce import-substituting wire ensuring longer life of the wires and ropes produced, Belorestsk managing director Sergey Fedorov stated.
