Russian steel producer Metalloinvest plans to increase its product range in H2 2021 through its modernization program.
Under this initiative, the company has completed the overhaul of its HBI-1 plant at LGOK in June. Commissioning of the cycling flow technology at the LGOK plant is imminent as is the completion of the construction of its MGOK plant, Metalloinvest noted in a statement.
In H1 2021, the company’s iron ore production rose by 1.2pc to 20.4mn mt compared to 20.1mn mt in H1 2020 and increased by 2.7pc in Q2 2021 to 10.1mn mt against 9.8mn mt in the same prior-year quarter.
Its production of pellets in H1 2021 inched down by 0.1pc to 14.14mn mt from 14.15mn mt in H1 2020 and dropped by 0.3pc in Q2 2021 to 7.06mn mt against 7.08mn mt in Q2 2020.
The firm’s HBI/DRI production fell by 5.4pc to 3.8mn mt in the first half of the year compared to 4.1mn mt in the same period last year and declined by 9.6pc to 1.8mn mt in the second quarter from 2mn mt in Q2 2020.
Production of hot metal in the six months period fell by 7.9pc to 1.16mn mt compared to 1.2mn mt in H1 2020 while it grew by 5.2pc to 606,000mt in Q2 2021 compared to 576,000mt in Q2 2020.
Crude steel production dropped by 2.3pc to 2.4mn mt in H1 2021 compared to 2.5mn mt in H1 2020 and decline by 2pc in Q2 2021 to 1.24mn mt from 1.27mn mt in Q2 2020.
The company’s iron ore shipments in the first half rose by 0.2pc to 3.44mn mt compared to 3.43mn mt in H1 2020 and climbed by 12.7pc in Q2 2021 to 1.7mn mt from 1.5mn mt in the same prior-year quarter.
Shipment of pellets increased by 2.9pc to 7.7mn mt in H1 2021 compared to 7.5mn mt in H1 2020 and grew by 12.1pc to 4.3mn mt in Q2 2021 compared to 3.9mn mt in Q2 2020. HBI/DRI shipments declined by 10.9pc in the six months period to 2.11mn mt compared to 2.3mn mt in H1 2020 and decreased by 24.6pc to 952,000mt in the second quarter from 1.2mn mt in Q2 2020.
Metalloinvest’s pig iron shipment grew by 1.8pc to 716,000mt in H1 2021 compared to 703,000mt in H1 2020 and increased by 19.4pc to 456,000mt in Q2 2021 compared to 382,000mt in Q2 2020. Shipment of steel products dropped by 6.7pc to 2.2mn mt in H1 2021 from 2.4mn mt in H1 2020 and was down by 3.3pc to 1.18mn mt in Q2 2021 compared to 1.2mn mt in Q2 2020.
