Construction of infra projects such as the Delhi Metro Phase IV is ramped-up to stir the Indian economy amidst the pandemic. Work at Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV continues on schedule despite labour crunch and monsoon. The project is likely to consume 678,000mt steel reinforcements.

Domestic primary steel producers including SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, JSPL, JSW Steel and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) actively supply steel to metro and rail projects across India. Earlier, Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) became the first company to supply head hardened rails to Indian metro projects. The company received orders from Kolkata Metro and Pune Metro. The company is also negotiating deals for other metro projects.

The Indian government in March 2019 cleared three out of six corridors of the proposed phased 4 of Delhi Metro, which will improve connectivity and ease transport in Delhi. Construction of the said projects started in December and the piling work for the construction of the 28.92 km Janakpuri West, R K Ashram Marg Corridor is currently underway.
