The Ministry of Economy (SE) of Mexico will extend the countervailing duties on imports of carbon steel pipe with straight longitudinal seams originating in the United States, regardless of the country of origin.

In its resolution published on Aug 30 in the Official Gazette of the Federation, the SE describes that the investigation determined that eliminating the duties would again lead to dumping, which would harm domestic producers.

The countervailing duties applied are 6.77pc for imports from Berg Europipe Holding Corporation, 4.04pc for those from Berg Steel Pipe Corporation, and 25.43pc for other US exporters, regardless of the country of origin.

These duties were first imposed in May 2005 and have since been extended two more times. This will be the third extension, which will cover five years from May 2020.

In another decision, the SE declared the initiation of an anti-dumping investigation procedure against imports of coated flat steels originating in Vietnam, regardless of the country of origin.
