The Mexican automotive industry produced 3.04mn units in 2020, down 20.2pc from 3.81mn units in 2019, the National Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (Inegi) said.
Exports fell by 20.8pc to 2.6mn cars in 2020, from 3.38mn units in 2019 while domestic sales declined 27.9pc to 949,353 cars from 1.31mn units in the same period under comparison.

In December 2020, car production rose 18.4pc to 254,251 units, from 214,723 units in December 2019. Car exports rose by 16.1pc to 275,081 against 236,848 cars in the same timeframe. Domestic sales, on the other hand, fell by 19.4pc to 105,135 units from 130,460 cars sold in December 2019.
Mexico’s crude steel production increased by 1.7pc to 1.45mn mt in November 2020 data from the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicated.
