Mexico’s construction output dropped by 23.8pc in November 2020 on an annual basis due to lower demand for civil engineering works, new buildings, and specialized infrastructure projects.
Civil engineering construction declined by 25.7pc in November 2020 compared to the same month in the prior year, while construction of new buildings and specialized infrastructure projects dropped by 23.2pc and 19pc, respectively, during the same period, the National Statistics Agency (Inegi) said in a statement on Monday.
Contracts and hours worked for construction industry personnel decreased by 19.2pc, and 18.1pc, respectively, in November 2020 on an annual basis, Inegi said.
On a monthly basis, construction fell by 0.4pc in November 2020 from October, and contracts for construction industry personnel decreased by 0.6pc. However, hours worked rose by 0.1pc in the same period.
In November 2020, the steel industry’s production increased by 1.7pc to 1.45mn mt, according to data from the World Steel Association.
