Mexico’s crude steel production dropped by 20.6pc to 1.3mn mt in March compared to the same month in 2019.
Between January and March this year, crude steel production also fell by 16.6pc to 4.1mn mt, according to the latest figures from the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Cuba, also experienced production declines in March.
Brazil’s crude steel production decreased by 8.2pc to 2.6mn mt, while Argentina’s crude steel output dropped by 26.8pc to 286,000mt. Colombian steel production fell by 4.8pc to 100,000mt; Peru’s crude steel production fell by 6.1pc to 100,000mt; and Cuba’s steel output decreased by 9.9pc to 15,000mt, according to the worldsteel figures.
However, Chile’s crude steel production increased by 31.2pc to 80,000mt in March compared to a year earlier.
