Industrial production in Mexico fell by 10pc on an annual basis in 2020 due to a decline in the construction, mining, and manufacturing sector, the National Statistics Agency (Inegi) reported. 

 

Construction activity declined by 17.2pc in 2020 compared to the prior year, mining output declined by 1.1pc, and manufacturing production fell by 10pc in the same period.

 

Construction of civil engineering works dropped by 25.3pc in 2020 over 2019 while construction of new buildings and of specialized infrastructure projects declined by 16.6pc and 11pc, respectively. In the same period, mining production declined by 4.6pc, Inegi said.

 

In December 2020 alone, Mexico’s industrial output fell by 3.2pc compared to December 2019 due to a decline in construction and mining. Construction activity declined by 12.3pc in December 2020 compared to the prior year period and mining activity declined by 2.4pc while manufacturing activity rose by 0.5pc in the same period.
