Mexico’s mining output fell by 1.7pc in January compared to the same month last year due to lower production of copper, iron ore, zinc, and lead, according to the National Statistics Agency (Inegi).

 

Iron ore production declined by 13.3pc to 493,567mt in January, from 569,546mt in January 2020, Inegi said in a statement on Mar 31.

 

Copper output fell by 3pc to 40,245mt in January, from 41,471mt in the same month of the prior year, while zinc production decreased by 22.9pc to 25,785mt from 33,445mt during the same period.

 

Lead production dropped by 21pc to 13,007mt in January, from 16,460mt produced in the same month of the prior year.

 

On a monthly basis, mining production rose by 1.2pc in January compared to December 2020, Inegi noted without disclosing volume.
