Australian miner, Mineral Resources’ Wonmunna project extracted 40mn mt of iron ore less than five months after breaking ground at the project.
The Wonmunna Iron Ore project was purchased by Mineral Resources from the Australian Aboriginal Mining Corporation (AAMC) in September 2020, the company stated. By June this year, the miner will ramp up its capacity to 5mn mt per annum and is expecting the potential capacity to rise to 10mn mt annually provided it receives additional approvals and has the ability to shell out extra capital costs.
Mineral Resources noted that iron ore extracted from the project will be used for the company’s Utah Point Hub Iron Ore project and will help increase its export capacity to 14mn mt per annum by the end of this year.
