The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has appointed David Clarry as its new chair for the next two-year term.
Clarry is the vice president of corporate social responsibility for Hudbay Minerals and will be replacing Gordon Stothart who served as the chair from June 2019 until this year. Stothart is the president and chief executive officer of IAMGOLD.
As the chair of MAC, Clarry will focus on the Executive Committee, International Social Responsibility Committee and Indigenous Relations Committee. Additionally, he will also lead MAC’s initiative “ Towards Sustainable Mining,” a sustainability program that supports companies to manage environmental and social risks.
Canada’s mining sector accounts for C$109bn of the national GDP and 19pc of Canada’s total exports, and employs close to 719,000 employees, MAC reported.
