Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works’ (MMK) continuous hot-dipping galvanising unit produced 38,014mt of galvanised rolled metal in May, an all-time high according to a company statement. Galvanised rolled metal production in May 2019 was 37,451mt which was set in August 2013.
The unit has an annual production capacity of 450,000mt and is a part of MMK’s modern cold-rolling complex commissioned in July 2012. The equipment used in the galvanising complex includes a five-cell cold rolling mill with an annual capacity of 2,100mt, a continuous hot-dip galvanising unit with an annual capacity of 450,000mt and a combined continuous hot-dip galvanising unit with an annual capacity of 650,000mt.
Cold-rolled galvanised steel is put to use in the Russian automotive and construction industry, and manufacturing of household appliances. MMK provides Russian car manufacturers galvanised rolled products with a group ‘C’ surface. The establishment of the galvanising complex along with the launch of continuous hot-dip galvanising line took the mill’s annual production capacity over 2mn mt.
